Life Science Cares Gives $220,000 in Grants
to Support Survival, Education and Employment in Greater Philadelphia
Awards to 14 organizations demonstrates growth for collective industry effort
Life Science Cares Philadelphia today announced $220,000 in grants to 14 Greater Philadelphia based social service organizations, bringing the organization’s giving total to $570,000 in the initial year of operations in Philadelphia.
The grants cap a year of growth for Life Science Cares Philadelphia, which works to create multifaceted partnerships with grantees. Support extends well beyond the financial contribution to include volunteer engagement, strategic support and in-kind donations of goods or services to nonprofit partners serving the nutrition, housing, education and employment needs of low-income residents across Greater Philadelphia.
“We are excited to be able to share the resources of the life science community with organizations that have a dedicated focus on serving areas of critical need in our community,” said Pete Wolf, the executive director of Life Science Cares Philadelphia. “Today’s announcement reflects our commitment to invest in nonprofits across the Greater Philadelphia area. We are grateful for the growing support that Life Science Cares continues to receive in Philadelphia and we thank the members of our Board and Advisory Board for their leadership.”
In December 2019, Life Science Cares Philadelphia started operations by announcing $50,000 of grants to an initial group of five nonprofit partners. The organization quickly responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by making two rounds of emergency relief grants to these partners totaling $300,000 and hosted engagement opportunities to continue to connect life the life science community to nonprofit partners in a time of tremendous need.
The life sciences community’s generosity has enabled the grants and has included donations from members of the Board, Advisory Board, members of Life Sciences Pennsylvania and other individuals.
“We are so excited to announce our second round of partners and grow our model of collective impact in the community,” said Life Science Cares Philadelphia Chairman Vin Milano. “We know that by working together and aligning the time and talents of the life science industry, we can and will make a real and measurable impact on our neighbors in need.”
